Plumbing requires moderate physical strength and can be quite painful on the hands. If a woman wishes to train for a trade, I would recommend the theoretically harder trade of electrician. The successful electrician has the option of carrying out additional training to become an inspector which as well as being lucrative can be flexed to fit in with possible changes in domestic arrangements.

Look for one of the Government training boards as they set-up training and apprenticeship schemes for UK citizens. Also, try local colleges that run trade training too.

I once had a women plumber who worked with a guy. and they were married right? Okay, so then these two people got into this god awful argument, and yelling and yelling and she took her first step, and started scratching this guys face, (I later found out they were man and wife) and, so, then this guy lifted his arm against his wife, I jumped and tackled him, oh, but did he get mad, he told me to mind my own business, and I say, you sir are going to jail, and her, your wife I will let go. Oh my, that is such a terrible experience, it left me totally traumatized over my view on plumbers. I hope this helps. I know I am totally off the subject here, but I only want to inform you of the dangers lurking out there in the world of plumbers..
