I had/have that! It started right at the start, now 17 weeks along, it is much better, but I put it down to the dry winter air. Moisturizer did not help. I scratched all the time, everywhere. It was terrible. Thank heavens it is going away.

Itching is common in pregnancy, but this generally happens as a result of the skin stretching later on in pregnancy.
However, hormonal changes can cause skin sensitivity. I've never really heard of this being an 'early pregnancy symptom' and think it's very unlikely to be the only symptom you would experience, however.
It's more likely to be a result of something environmental. Have you changed your washing powder, or any cosmetics, or cleaning products?

It is normal to feel itchy during pregnancy (caused by hormones and the growing baby) but if you dont think your pregnant it could be many things. Could be dry skin. Dry air can cause your skin to become dry and itchy.Put a moisturizer on your skin 3 or 4 times during the day. Put moisturizer on right after you wash or bathe. This will hold in the moisture from the water. If you have very dry hands, put petroleum jelly on them before you go to bed at night and sleep with your hands in cotton-lined gloves.

I didn't start itching until I was much further along, and my skin started to stretch across my belly. I wouldn't count on itchiness as a sign of pregnancy, because there are so many other things that can cause it.

I have never heard of it being a sign of early pregnancy, it can be a problem in later pregnancy and a sign of problems with your liver, I would definately check it out with your gp and ask for a blood test
