I have an interview today and I am trying to prepare myself before I go in. One of the questions they may ask is: "What are your weaknesses?" Who the hell wants to point out their weaknesses in an interview???? Anyone have any ideas on how to answer this question without making myself look bad?

You aren't making yourself look bad, you are being honest. Mention things that you are working on bettering; always follow up your weakness with plan of action. Shows you are prepared.

Lady, or young lady I should say, you are so right, we all have weaknesses, but the interviewer isn't looking at it like that, so, here's what you do, really, you just say some of my weaknesses are when I come across a predator and I just don't know what exactly to do, I usually am a very strong person, but if some stranger is following me, I feel as if I'm in precarious danger, other than that, I believe that I am a very strong person, emotionally!!!!! I hope this helps some, its an idea to take you out of the work shop of the job you are trying to apply for, believe me, this usually works because we all have weakness but many of us aren't quickly inclined enough to open up to a question like this. Hey, you might not even be asked this particular question, but if it is asked, try my suggestion, bite your ego and go for it. I hope you get the job, oh, and be honest, specific and discreetfully respectful.

You'll get this question on every interview. Here are some good answers: " My main weakness is my obsession with doing a great job. I just can't stand to do or even see sloppy or poorly executed work."

" My weakness is loyalty. I find that when I'm part of an organization, I try to do anything possible to further it's goals. I like having a good boss I can respect and find that I'll pull out all the stops to help my boss and make him look good."

Leave out the parts about any addictions, infatuations or character flaws.

I've never REALLY had someone ask this, but if they do, you could say

Well, a weakness I had in the past was....(perfectionism? workaholic? something that's not really a huge weakness)

Make sure you say in the past and then say what you've done about it:

I was a perfectionist but I realized that doing my best doesn't mean I have to micromanage. I've learned to be more of a team player rather than putting it all on myself.

Good Luck!

say somethin like this: becuase i often take on so many tasks between work and my personal life, sometimes i might mess up planning for something (give an example of something like you told your friend you would help them move but you forgot you had a party to attend. Then be like since i bought a personal planner/palm pilot etc., it has made a world of difference and im now more effectively organized. Then maybe give an example of how you planned your last week out

they wana see you take a weakness, and then are actively trying to do something to correct it

Tell them you can be a perfectionist/detailed orianted to a fault. Meaning you can spend too much time on one thing b/c you want to make sure it's done properly and thoroughly. It's not an on going thing, but you are known to do it when a project is "your baby".

Make sure you use "can be" it suggests that you're not always a "perfectionist to a fault". Because most likely you will or have already used the words "effecient" and "time management" to describe your work ethics and yourself.

The traditional response is a "weakness" that is in fact a strength.

"Sometimes I will get so immersed in a work-related issue that I can't 'shut off' thinking about it when I'm at home."

"My habit of wearing low-cut tops and high-hemline skirts sometimes poses a safety hazard to easily distracted men."

I really screwed this one up, but I think a good way to dodge it is to say something along the line of, "I'd really like to get more into this area of expertise. I have not been exposed to it as much in the past." If they want to know your personal weaknesses, tell them your perfect, slap them twice, and walk out.

Always turn any question like that around... Say something like one of my weaknesses is sometimes I get to involved in a task I am working on and focus all of my efforts on that one thing to strive for perfection.
