Why kill Captain America. There are plenty of worthless superheroes amongst the pages of all comic books. Why kill off an iconic one such as him?

It’s because they can’t write him any more. They don’t believe in him, and so they can’t write his stories anymore. The writers and editors at Marvel no longer believe in the worth of America, and they see nothing wrong in encouraging and helping our nation’s enemies.

They are mistaken if they think that our enemies will reward them for helping them take over. They are mistaken if they think our nation’s enemies will even allow them to live. They betrayed America—they might betray the new management. They will have to go.

I am sickened and sad at heart to see this happen. They no longer have that idealism themselves, and they mock those who do. You are right to say Cap was an icon. He was the living embodiment of what it means to be a hero, he is ‘what a hero ought to be like’. The trouble is, there are anti heroes—morally flawed heroes created BY morally flawed people FOR morally flawed people.

I am not perfect, therefore I need my heroes to be as perfect as possible. I need inspirations I can live up to, not schmucks that I can live down to.

Apparently the writers and editors at Marvel think otherwise. It begins with registration and incarceration, in Civil War. It continues with the elimination of symbols of resistance like Cap, now. Let us hope it does not end with the enslavement of America.

For the same Reason that Jerry Seinfeld ended his show when it was still quite popular. You don't want to over do anything as it can ruin the quality or image of whatever it is be it a TV show or Comic book icon. Capatain America will always live on in the hearts of the fans, the endless superhero videogames, and of course all the many years that Captain America was in the comics. There are a lot of lame superheroes and I agree that it is a shame for Capatain America to die, but I guess it was his time.

Batman is still the undeniable king of superheroes though. And at least he's not dead yet.

Wouldn't a modern Captain America movie kick some serious ***?

Captian America was a symble of what made America great in the past and has been lost. Killing him after having him come out against a wrong perpetrated by the government and some of his fellow heros was a way for Marvel to say that America has fallen from greatness and needs to get its act together or we will fall as a nation.

They're killing Steve Rogers - not necessarily Captain America.. I'm sure this is a storyline that will allow some young "new generation" to shoot the serum and don the costume.. to fight for truth, justice and the American Way..

(perhaps it will be a young American Muslim to don the garb and fight terrorists.)

My guess is this is a publicity stunt - deigned to up readership and generate interest in the character's reinvention.

pretty much a no-brainer that the timing is right for a patriotic superhero - he's not going away.

Who is stupider? Marvel who thinks stunts like this mean anything or readers who fall for stunts like this?

Let's see, Bucky/ The Winter Soilder will be Cap for about two years and then it will be shown that Ronin or US Agent is really Steve Rogers, or he'll step from the Cosmic Cube or Mephisto will cut a deal and re work reality and bring Cap back.

Which will last longer? Steve Rogers being dead or Spider-mans identity being known to the world?

I have an idea! How about good writing and art instead of sales stunts?

No, conversely, the Republicans and their modern-day deisregard for the will of the individuals they supposedly characterize killed Captian united statesa.. The Captain united statesa. comic has been a remark on American Society because its inception even as, for the duration of WWII, Captain united statesa. became seen struggling with such villians as Adolf HItler. Captain Amercia became protesting a marvelous hero registration act (a thinly veiled representation of the U. S. Patriot Act) even as he became shot be his lady friend who became hypnotized by technique of the "undesirable guy." Hmmm..is the american public being hypnotized into doing issues which could be unfavorable to their lengthy time period health??

they killed steve rogers not captain america.

I think the point of that is to show the changing face of america.

I think clues to the new captain america were in the civil war.

I think it will be frank castle. He picked up his mask at the end, the whole new vs. old face of america and the american.

They are showing that rogers' and his view of america is outdated as the country has changed. the last frontline illustrated how out of touch with america, modern america that steve rogers really is.

I think they are replacing him for this reason.

As far as your metaphor theory, I was thinking the same thing this morning. It's rather depressing if you ask me.
