Imitatiting sounds not natural to us is a human trait a very high percentage of humanity can manage. . .So why can't they correct thier speech by simple immitation? I am not saying it's easy, but it took me two thecondths to do a lithp? I not making fun, or trying to be insensitive and I love all people great and small, I just want to know. So no offense meant, but. .. Tell Matticuth, he WANTH to KNOW> :)

Because it's a speech impediment! They have to work very hard to get rid of the impediment.
I know somebody who can't say her ings. Always comes out in' no matter what. She's been made fun of and she's felt embarrassed but she just can't say it correctly. See? There are several types of impediment. If they could turn it off and speak regularly it wouldn't be an impediment!

I don't think they can because of physical limitations. For some a lisp is physical, and for others it is mental. The ones that have a mental lisp, can simply imitate and correct this speech irregularity. Those who have a physical lisp are limited by the size of their tongue. Their tongue is simply too big to make proper speech patterns.

The lispers(gay men) are born that way(flamboyant). They can't talk right any more than they can be attracted to women. I think it is a disease of the mind. Sort of a retardation if you will. Why would anyone want to fake a lisp?

Bcuz they have a large toungue or unusual teeth. Or at least those are the most common causes.
