first of all canman, the yankees don't have a choice on whether or not a-rod leaves because it is a PLAYER option in his contract, not a CLUB option...i think he will leave unless the yankees win the world series, because that is the only way the media bashing of him will stop...he's considered a choker and not a playoff performer in nyc, and he will shake that image if and only if he wins a world series and is a major contributor...if he does leave, then, it will probably be to the cubs because of his high opinion of lou piniella and the perpetual willingness of the cubbies to spend money

It would be a good time for Boston to get revenge for Damon..but I doubt they can afford A-Rod after spending more on 1 pitcher than the Marlins pay their entire pitching staff.
If he has an off year he will stay with the Yankees and finish his last year. If they win it all he will opt out of his last year and test the free agent market. I don't think anyone can afford to give him the same deal that Texas did, it almost killed their team. So he may stay for the last year of his contract and go back into free agency the year after. At 32 he may listen to 5 year deals that may be for less money and he could change his mind for the right long term deal even if the money is less.
But if Detroit doesn't win the World Series this year.. maybe Sheffield is starting his recruiting campagn early...
Detroit would be my guess - but I doubt you will see pinstrips added to those white uniforms.

For as long as his contract is in effect, he will remain a Yankee. Brian Cashman would not want to be subsidizing his salary while he played in Chicago or Oakland. Once he becomes a free agent, he will likely run, not walk, out of New York. Maybe 3d base for the Angels, move Figgins to the outfield and let Anderson DH?

The Angels are the best bet.
They have two incentives.
First, they can add a power bat to third base, which they sorely need.
Second, they would be sticking it to a playoff rival.
Finally, Rodiguez is a local guy and grew up in that area, so he has a lot of family there. And the Angels are a winning franchise.

He will go somewhere lo key in the AL like detroit so he could switch back 2 shart and be with Sheffield. Whitesox and Ozzie would take him with Uribe having problems and this being his make or break year anyway . But I see the Angels, Bluejays, and A's as the dark horses for him. He would thrive in that Oaklnad Clubhouse. BUt will Cashman and Steinbrenner really let this great talent go???????

Looks like he is trying to find a home with the Cubs possibly....I just don't think he can handle the attention in New York.Yes,I do think he is a good ballplayer for those who might think I'm bashing him.He just needs out!! There is no real resolving the Jetter issue after it was said.
Later...

He loves Lou Piniella. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that he will join the Chicago Cubs next year.

If he has a good season and if the Yankees win it all the fans will embrace him at long last. If that's the case he will return. A lot of if's!!
