I never got good grades in middle school or high school. I was never motivated to do good. I never had the patience to sit down and study and there were always other things on my mind. Now, here I am in college (a community college) and i'm wondering if college is for me. I know I can do it if i had the motivation, but i just don't have it. I have that little voice in my mind saying "college is not for you." My cousin and uncles never went to college because they didnt have the patience for it either and they are making alot of money still... And I've always been the entertaining type with the good sense of humor... Alot of people tell me i should be in broadcasting school. My question is, should I drop out and try broadcasting school? Or should I stay in college and find ways to get more motivated? I havent even been going to class this week because i'm so confused about everything...

Could it be that you simply haven't found your passions yet? What sort of courses are you taking? I know a lot of people who chooses certain majors because their families want them to become doctors or lawyers, or something. Perhaps it's time to consider taking something just for fun that you're interested in (ie., film studies, classical studies, political science -- whatever interests you) and see where that leads you. You may discover new passions you never knew you had!

I'd say it makes most sense to continue on and earn a BA in something -- your chances of securing a good job and earning decent wages are a lot higher than if you didn't have at least an undergraduate degree behind you.

Maybe you should consider talking to your councilors -- they may be able to provide you with more options. I'd also consider talking to some of my instructors if you feel you have a good enough rapport with them. (They're human too, and some of them may have ideas and stories that may inspire you.) It sounds like you're just struggling to get through it this term, but at this point, I think you just have to grit your teeth and bear it.

Perhaps you can take the summer off and use that time to work and think about what you want. Honestly, for me, it only took some time working in the real world to know that I wanted to stay in academia.

I'm sure you're perfectly able to complete an undergraduate degree. I think right now what you may need is some time away from school to think about your life. Just don't give up on yourself. There's something for you.

Follow your heart. If you feel like college isn't the right thing for you, then I'd say finish out this semester and then try something else. What is your true calling in life? If it's broadcasting, then maybe consider applying to a broadcasting school.

But the important thing is...don't drop out in the middle of the semester. Finish your classes and do the best you can before moving on to something else.

Never drop out of the college.Your cousins and uncles may be fortunate enough to earn tonnes of bucks, but you may not.The world today is searching for people with qualifications, with brains, with intelligence.I would advice you to visit a counsellor and talk about your problem to them. They will motivate you.
Forget about what you were in the past.Today just be yourself.A new you.
All the best for the future.Let me remind you once again, dont ever drop out...who knows God may change your destiny!

I would say motivation could bring you through even if you don't have good grades in the past. Who is to say you can't study something you are interested in, rather than something abstract?

You need to find a compromise between following your dreams and getting a degree. Both are necessary, so find what you like and study that.

I knew a lot of people like you when I was in college. Most of them were heavy pot smokers. If that is you -- stop now -- it is keeping you from moving forward in your life.

If it is not you -- then maybe you are right & college isn't for you. Either way, your uncles are lucky. The typical person without a college degree only makes about 60% of what someone with a degree makes.
