The federal minimum wage is $5.15 but every state has the right to exceed that amount. For example, the Oregon State minimum wage is $7.80! Further, certain industries can have lower minimum wage, like agriculture.
However, your question about the "value" of the minimum wage is a relative question. Do you mean the amount or what is the value of having a minimum wage? In my opinion, we need minimum wage to protect employees from employers who may take advantage of them and coincide with inflation. The value to me mean equality & fairness.

Minimum wage varies by state. You can find the state listings at the Department of Labor website http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm
For example:
Alabama = No state minimum wage law.
Alaska = $7.15
California = $7.50
Connecticut = $7.65
Georgia = $5.15
New York = $7.15

Same for 20 years back-up by cheap labor supply illegal or legal immigration, our younger citizens & anyone who falls prey to desperation in poverty! USA is not a democracy it is a out of control Fascist Capitalistic all for the wealthy only enviroment! IT SUCKS! $10.00 dollars an hour is not a livable wage but millions are force to work for less! The cost of living is much higher for subsistance!
