If you can find an adult Dance Aerobics class at a local studio that would probably be ideal for what your looking for. Most studios offer on, and it usually contains yoga, pilates, and a segment of some form of dance (jazz,hip-hop, ballet). If any studios offer them, you may also really enjoy adult hip-hop class. Try a phone directory for dance studios in your area, and then call around and inquire.
Most teachers are also aware that adults dont want to be singled out in class and are there for exercise, so I would almost gaurantee that you will be comfortable in the area of the class.Hope it goes well!

Most studios offer adult dance classes in ballet at the very least, and some have adult modern and jazz as well. Adult classes are not competitive like teen classes are. They're usually made up of parents of the younger dancers who just want some exercise.
In the Chicago area, I would try Gus Giordano studios in Evanston. (It's right near the Davis St. Purple line stop) I know they offer adult ballet, and the teachers are pretty good there.

i do dance and am hoping to be pro. it is a great way of exercising and having fun. not all dance classes make you go
dance on your own in front of the class. you wont be the only beginner there. my dance classes don't make you go up on your own. but once in a while you will go up and dance in front of the class in small groups about 3 to 5 people per group. its great that you want to try it. i compete with my dancing and have competitions coming up. i cant wait i am hoping to get in a collage where i can get better and become a professional. i hope you like it. don't be nervous just have fun!

I don't know, but if I were you, I wouldn't take a modern class because modern is all about bending the rules of ballet. So usually, you should have prior knowlegde of ballet to be successful in a modern class. If I were you, I'd take a hip hop class because hip hop is pretty much a genre of dance all on its own. You don't need and prior knowlegde of ballet in order to be successful.

Usually, you don't have to perform a dance routine in front of the class. If you do have any problems with a dance move, the teachers are usually there to help.It doesn't matter if you have dance training, they will usually put you in a class with people your age,not by your ability.

Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited.
It's great. Not a very high class professional place. but that's what keeps the price down. lol. there are levels from beginning to advanced. ages go from toddler to adult. if you'd rather not participate in the recital you don't have to. but if u want to take the classes where there is no recital or your new to the school i suggest taking the summer course. seriously. Their website hasn't been updated in a while but here it is: http://dorothysdancingunlimited.com/programs/courses.htm

try a cardio dance class at your local gym.The moves are broken down simply and build gradually so they feel fluid and natural. Most dance classes offered at gyms tend to go latin or hip hop with jazz thrown in...give it a try. A good sense of rythmn is helpful, too.

yes there should be several dance classes available in your area. you might want to check the local paper or phone book for listings, also research the type of dance you want to learn and see if you can find things online about classes
