My best friend just found out that her boyfriend is going to be incarcerated for some years and she plans on waiting on him to come home. I have been trying to tell her that she would be wasting precious years only to have him come home and move on with someone else. She just doesn't understand that he is just using her so she can visit, write, money in account ect. The sad part is that she is young, (early twenties). Why does she feel she has to wait on him..Can you all give her some insight. Maybe if I show her some responses other than from myself it might help.

Get her out more to meet new people and realize she's holding out for a loser. Life is too short to waste it on losers. She will be causing herself some very unnecessary pain, that she could live without, and will steal her joy and happiness that she could enjoy and share with some real guy, you know? And later in life she will have regrets and think, man! I can't believe I wasted all my life on this loser. She can still love the guy, but that doesn't mean she will put her life on hold because he won't line up.
(I am going to write directly for her, so I am addressing it as such.)
You know? You can shift from a lover love to a mankind love, and pursue your own happiness. A great guy deserves your best years and smiles and all you have to offer, don't you think?Imagine that you found the greatest guy and you're all spent. Wouldn't that be so pitiful? Here's this awesome guy loving you and you got nothing but bad memories, and inhibitions cuz you were 'saving' yourself or spending yourself on a loser. Let the loser grow up, and let him figure it out, why do you want to be in the same pot with him? It's not your fault he's in jail! Obviously if he got there you weren't a good match for him cuz you could not prevent him from getting there. He's got a problem, and you have a life to live, get over it, and take care of yourself, and that doesn't mean you're selfish, on contraire! It means you're realizing that in order to be able to have a healthy relationship you have to take care of Number one! and that's you, honey!
Get over him, and quick, you're wasting your time. Besides, when they come out they're never the same, do you really want to deal with that?
