According to the Textbook of Fish Health expanded and revised edition, Neon Tetra Disease has not been documented in cardinal tetras. This certainly doesn't mean they can't get it, only that no conformation has ever been reported. They go on to say that it has been tested in labs and it was not transmitted to Cardinals under lab conditions.

One of the things that cardinals are known for is their resistance to neon tetra disease.

Don't think that getting cardinals will solve your problems, though. Cardinals are a very difficult fish to keep and require specific water conditions to keep. If you keep on developing neon tetra disease, you'll have to do a few things. Add salt to your water, not a large amount. Aquarium salt, not sea salt. If you have no other fish in there, you can add a lot more. Remove any and all sick fish. NTD will produce 100% mortality. Wait until you have no more sign of NTD (this will take a while). Do many large water changes (75% or more, 3 times a week for a few weeks). Reconsider the source that you purchase the tetras. The source you're purchasing the tetras from may never be getting rid of sick fish appropriately.

False, sorry.

Are you sure it is neon tetra disease as several diseases can look similar to NTD?
