The geo metro, hands down. Their reliability is far superior to the aspire. Need proof? Next time your on the road, count the number of metros you pass, and then see if you can even find an aspire anymore. Also, the aspire has a larger engine, gets worse mileage, and to top it off is SLOWER. I own three metros. They are fun to drive (like a large go-cart), and believe it or not are quite fast if your willing to rev the engine up to its 6500 rpm redline before you shift.
I commute 128 miles round trip every day, and, if I drive nice can get 50 + m.p.g. But I usually don't drive nice. I smoke the tires, redline shift, and generaly abuse my car. This costs me on my mileage. I only average 46m.p.g., still better than an aspire. I have totally humiliated aspire drivers who thought they could take my metro from a stoplight.
If by chance you should have to replace an engine, or work on it, the metro engines are more plentiful and so are the parts wich equates too much cheaper parts than for an aspire. The average price for a 1litre 3 cylinder metro engine ( the one I have in all three of my cars) is 420 dollars from japanese importers. The cheapest I could find an aspire engine was 745 dollars. I would avoid the later model metros that have a four cylinder engine. The engine replacement cost is comparable to an aspire, the gas mileage is not as good as the three cylinder, and they aren't any faster.
As stated before, want to know wich is better, just pay attention to how many you see of each model on the road, and you'll see wich car is better made and worth the owners fixing and keeping on the road.

Metros stopped being made by Geo in 1997 and switched to being Chevy Metros. They are not even being manufactured anymore. Chevy retired them and now makes the Chevy Aveo instead. My 1998 Chevy Metro gets about 40 miles to a gallon and more if I go on a long trip that is mostly freeway driving. I don't know anything about Ford Aspires. I wouldn't buy a Ford because my dad had a Ford pickup that I just hated.

The Ford Aspire was built by Kia. It sits on a simlar platform as the current Kia Rio.
The Geo Metro was the same as a Suzuki Swift. It was built by Suzuki.
Back in the day when those cars were manufactured and sold in the US, the Geo Metro was definitely more reliable.

If you are looking at base models then the Geo Metro is the reliable vehicle.
The 3 cylinder is a hemi with tons of bottom end making it easy to drive in traffic without having to constantly downshift.
The brakes last forever.
Good entry level vehicle, a lot of ignorant people think "econo boxes" are horrible and deadly, but if only they knew, the Geo is still produced in other parts of the world.
If you are looking for the loaded version with an automatic, and AC and power windows and door locks.
Save your money and buy an older Corolla or Camry

Hmmm, Suzuki built the three-cylinder Cultus/Forsa series for sale in the US as the Chevy Sprint(I had a '87 model, and it lasted 10 years--and 188,000 miles!!!), and in Canada as the Pontiac Firefly(don't ask GM why this was done!), while Ford sold their Kia-built Aspire here(but in Canada as the short-lived Mazda 121?)...
Go w/ the Ford!...
