Because for instance, in high school, your parents woke you up, your teachers made you work in class, and in college, there's noone there to do that for you. YOU have to decide to wake up and go to class, and also to work in class. Your professors dont give a heck if you do your class/home work or not. So, you have to have major discipline if you want to pass college.

Discipline is very important because it allows you to excel and stand out rather than just get by like everyone else. For me, just getting by is not acceptable. I'm an adult, and I act like one, and it annoys me to no end when the people who just fool around complain and whine and get extensions for no reason when the rest of us who actually want to grow are working.
If I wanted to mess around, I could have not gone to college at all. I'd also be homeless because my mom would not let that go on in her house.
Discipline truly is the most important trait a student can have. If you don't have it, then you really can't be called a student. You're just another person stalling life for four or more years.

Totally agree. I think that a students first year (or sooner) they learn they can't party every night. I was a residental manager for a apartment complex on a major college campus. These kids were up at 4 am partying from thursday night thru tuesday night. About 3 months into the school year - that changed somewhat. Apparently, grades suffered! Partying is a big part of the education process of college I believe. They no longer have mom and dad to 'catch' them when they get out of control, so they have to start answering for themselves. Getting up at 6 am after drinking until 3 am is not easy. Surprisingly, most kids manage to get it together and prioritize and know their limits better by the 2nd year of college.

If you want to actually graduate from college, it is.
If you are only there because the parents bought you four years to dink around while you're waiting for life to happen, then not so much.
It takes discipline to reach your goals, otherwise your just another dink floating around jobless and most likely hooked on some perscription drug that some guy on your floor said helped him pull off an all-nighter right before midterms.

I agree.
For one thing, it is usally the first time a student lives on his/her own, and doesn't have parents checking up on them to make sure they go to class, do their homework, get enough sleep, etc.
Also, college has many temptations - there is always so much happening it is easy to get caught up in fun stuff and completely ignore your studies. Discipline is the number one factor in determining who will succeed in college and who will fail.
