i am going for my first prenatal visit in 6 days, and i was wondering what blood/urine tests they run? i used drugs in the beginning of my pregnancy, when the pregnancy was unbenounced to me. i am afraid they will pick up the drugs in my system from that time, and cause a whole hell of a lot of problems with DYFS. i was using oxycontin (about 40 mg a day snorted, and 2 30 mg oxycodones a day swallowed) and i havent used in over a month. can anyone help me?

well first off that should be out of your system by now Second they can not do any kind of test w/o your permission the doctor will not do a drug test or ask to do one unless he questions it due to behavior or some other obvious reason to him i would be honest with about your usage it may come in handy later for him to have that information. ok now to answer your question dear the urine test they sen out for analysis and culture to check for infection, sugar, protein, blood; blood tests they will do and HIV test, check for immunizations like measles and rubella i think, over all blood count and blood type, check your platelets, umm im trying to think nothing that would show your drug usage if that is here your concern is but you need to make sure you stop if you haven't already! i know it is hard trust me i know. I am unsure what state you are in but the should not check for drugs #1 without your knowledge and consent, or they have reason to beilive you are in danger of hurting the baby and yourself which is usually a court order thing and they have to get child services available first( this varies by state!)

GOOD LUCK and i am sure you will be fine dont stress so much i went 6 wks w/o knowing and i am now 11 or 12wks all is healthy that does not mean my child will not have issues later on but i was not doing any hard drugs or heavy drinking just unaware i had a baby in my tummy and living my usual life and it was hard at first to wake up and realize everything i did effected the baby but for now im healthy and the baby is healthy u can email me through my profile if you like if not i hope this answer helps you feel better and relax yourself think of it this way to what did they do before hpt? you body has to in some small way protect the baby in the begging(my opinion only!) MANY BLESSINGS

When you go in and they ask you all the question about your medical history tell them that you did use but that you stopped once you found out you were pregnant. The do a lot of tests your first visit to get a "starting" level so they can see if anything goes up or down during your pregnancy. I think at mine they did a iron test, pregnancy test, and a Rh test to find out if you have positivie or negitive blood. And then a protien urine test. But as long as you are up front with them they will be understanding. And remember that they can't tell anyone about anything you tell them without your premission.

General urine test with a dipstick (glucose, protein, etc...), they can't test for drugs without your permission, and they normally won't ask to test for drugs unless you or a social worker or something bring it up. The drugs might be out of your system now anyway. The only way to detect it would be a hair folicle test. As far as blood test, they recommend being tested for STD's, but again, you can refuse that if you don't want it.

Generally your first visit is for you and the Dr. to become familiar with each other and for him/her to get a general idea of your overall health. I wouldn't worry about the previous drug use

Be honest about the drugs with your doctor. They are there to help and make sure you and your baby are healthy w/ pregnancy! They do blood work usually to see if your baby has down syndrome or spinabifida, but only if you want them to check for that. They do take urine samples, but do not test for drugs. In all the test they do they will not know you did drugs. But again, for the sake of you and your baby I would talk to the doctor about it. Better to know know if there will be probles in the long run. Good luck to you and congrats, i hope its what you wanted!

It depends how far along you are. If you're very early they'll do a blood test to confirm pregnancy. While you're there you really need to mention the drugs, the doctor needs to know about it. In the meantime continue to not use it, no alcohol or smoking. They will also probably do a pap test, check your weight, get your medical history and possibly try to detect a heartbeat via transvaginal ultrasound.

Congrats and good luck!!

Every doctor is different when they get these tests done, so I suggest asking your doctor when you get there and explain the situation to him. The only person your hurting if you don't tell your doctor you WERE on drugs is your baby. Be brutally honest with your doctor, every thing will be fine if its been longer than a month since you last used. Good luck in your pregnancy.

Unless you have a history of drug use that don't usually test for them. They do a full physical and blood work to test for any std's including aids. But if I were you I'd let them know about the the drugs because they'll need to watch you and the baby. Good luck to you.

depending on if they do a pap smear the first time or not, at my first test all they did was take blood, which tests for hepatitis b, syphilis, and most of the time HIV.... there could have been other tests included in that but its been a while...then at your pap smear the test you for other Stds, and make sure everything looks alright. and at every doctors appointment they will want a urine sample to test your protein, sugar, and all of that kind of stuff.. ive also heard that some doctors actually do tests for drugs during your first visit, but i dont think thats something that happens too often.

Well, I pray to God you stopped when you found out you were pregnant!!!
As for the first tests .. they usually do a blood test to test your thyroid and all fluids to make sure your body isn't lacking anything. They do a urine test to test your sugar levels and protein levels.
They don't really check for drugs (unless further in the pregnancy they suspect you are still doing them) .. their main focus is to make sure your body fluids are up and ready for the baby (making sure you don't need any prescribed supplements).

They're not that concerned in the beginning about drug use before you found out you were pregnant.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU DONT DO ANYTHING FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS!!! give that baby the best start at life that you can!!

Also, START PRE-NATALS PILLS *A.S.A.P*!

good luck! God bless!

What they test for isnt for drug testing of any sort at least that is what they tell me anyway but who knows. The blood test are for any diseases you may have and your body type any diseases your baby may have or something to be of conceren. They take about 5 tubes full of blood from you well at least they did me. The pee test is used for checking sugar and protein levels. Because either one of those are signs of potential diseases. You should be straight up with your doctor they may not like it but as long as you arent using anymore there is nothing they can do about it, but they may want to run some other test I dont know. I told my doctor I smoke he frowned upon it but he gave me some medication to help me quit. If your not using that is great and good for you drug addictions are hard to over come but for your baby's sake tell your doctor I dont much about pills or cause of them to a growing fetus so its best to talk to your doctor so he/her can help you better understand the situation.
