ancient societies from the past had different lifestyles then we do today. They didn't have the technology that is at our fingertips with automobiles, industries with mass global production and distribution. Many of them lived off of the land in some way, shape, or form. Worshiping gods that represented the very lively hood of not only their surroundings but inevitably thier exsistents.
.
I believe they cared for the enviroment better them we do, but we have come a long way.
In the end as society grew smarter we slowly lead ourselves into the distruction of what we see in our own back yard.

I am sure ancient societies were concerned about the environment and they had contributed less to it's destruction compared to Modern societies.
I can give certain examples from India.
Most of the Hindus don't kill any animal and even poisonous snakes. They adore trees and cut them only when it is essentially required like for building a house. Indians leave lot of trees and vegetation untouched near the temples and it is called a Sarpakavu. These practices are continued even these days.

Some were, some were not. Just like today. Cultures that were directly dependent on the environment for survival cared about it very much, and still do. Cultures that were profit and power oriented did not care and still don't. I think today the latter far outrun the former but those of us who care are gaining in power by uniting and acting together, en masse.

In a feeling, confident. in case you look into historic tribes or societies, no longer something became into wasted. From whale to buffalo, all areas, even oils and fat have been used. look into us as we talk, the main wasteful disposable lazy society on the face of the planet. there may well be a competent sort of "green" persons accessible attempting to make a distinction with recycling and what no longer. yet common, we suck. Waste no longer, stay in solidarity with nature, cry while looking muddle. subsequently the creed of the yank Indian.

What makes you think that people are concerned about the environment today? Sure -- a few people are, but most are not.
