Yes. It can hold video data in any video format you choose. Though, if you want to be able to watch it on certain standalone machines, it will have to be a certain format, such as VCD or SVCD.

SVCD is very similar to DVD format, both are encoded MPEG-2 and have the same frame-rate, but DVD has a resolution of 720 x 480 (NTSC) and SVCD is 480 x 480 (NTSC). This allows one full-length DVD to fit on 2 SVCDs, or even one if it's compressed well-enough - though, there will be a loss in quality.

Both formats support menus and subtitles.

Depends on what format the video is in that you are wanting to store on the cd. If its DVD format then theoretically you can put it on there but of course there is not enough space to store a whole movie (CD=700mb, DVD=4700mb). Now if you want to compress the video you are trying to store and save it in a format called Divx.. then yes you can. Some software outthere can even compress an entire DVD into a file size of 700mb and allow it to be burned (legally it would be a backup of a movie you own the rights too). They have some DVD players on the market that can decode this file (Divx) and allow you to play it on the TV. I hope that answers your question. You can save pretty much anything on a CD in DATA format as long as the file size is less than the total capacity of the CD (usually 650-700mb).

Yes.

A CD is nothing more than another way to store data, ANY kind of data. Keep in mind that based on the format you save the video in, stand-alone players such as DVD players will probably not play the video.

any cd can hold video data but it will not be in DVD format, it will be in VCD, MPEG, AVI etc. DVD format, which is VOD, has large file sizes.
