I just installed a secondary hard drive as a slave unit to the first. I checked the jumpers and connections and it is showing device manager. What I am trying to do now is get it to appear under the "My Computer" section as Drive D as my original one is Drive C so that I can save different programs and files to the different drives. So anyone have an idea on how to do this?

Assuming the drive is new, you will need to partition and format the drive before you can actually use it.

There should be directions that came with the drive, but to make it easy, here is how you do it.

Go to the "Run" portion of your start menu. From there type "diskmgmt.msc". This will bring up a list of attached drives.

You should see the new drive listed there, all you will have to do is right click on the drive and select "format". From there you will be able to select what file system you want and how big the partition should be. Just select NTFS and allow the default partition size.

Go through with the operation, and after a few minutes the drive will be formatted and ready to go.

In Windows 2000 and XP, your new drive will not appear at all in My Computer until you format it. In Windows 9x/ME, it will appear, but you will need to right-click on the new drive and choose "Format" from the menu.

To format the drive in Windows 2000 or XP, right-click on My Computer and go to "Manage". In the window that comes up, click Disk Management in the left pane. Once it loads, you should see an "Initialize Disk" wizard pop up. Partition and format the disk to your liking, but make sure not to convert it to a dynamic disk, as doing so will provide plenty of annoyances down the road.
