I presume you are talking about purchases made on ebay etc.
There are more ways to pay in an effort to accomodate everyone's needs. You can pay by electronic fund transfer, bank to bank, you can pay through pay pal, you can pay by credit card or you can pay by mailing a check. Usually they will not ship the merchandise until the check clears.
