I am having trouble with my computer and need help. For some reason my computer doesn't update correctly. Also I can't seem to change my desktop background. I have been trying to fix it and have had no luck. I tried reinstalling yahoo and that didn't work. I have to click refresh all the time in order to update my screens and make sure the info is up to date. Please help me fix this....I'm assuming it's something that maybe was deleting on accident from my pc that maybe needs to be reinstalled. HELP..

Do a complete virus scan. Viruses could be causing problems.

Otherwise, when did you notice the symptoms? Had you installed any new software? If so, uninstall any new programs. Clean up your hard disk. Do a disk defragment.

Did you delete some files that you were not sure of? If so, try restoring your computer to a date when it did work.

A scan with Ad-aware, AVG Antivirus, Spy-bot, and Windows Defender might help. If the scans do not help do a repair install of WinXP using the installation CD.

You might want to try to go in and redo your profile. If your user.dat file gets too large, you start experiencing problem that you are having. Just go in under the administrator account and rename your current profile. Log in again and it should start a fresh profile. You can then copy your profile settings from the old one to the new as long as you don't touch your user.dat file.
