I want to plant some flowers in rectangular planters on my porch. I would like plants and flowers that will cascade over the outside walls of my porch. What are good cascading plants, that are easy to care for?

Thanks :)

I love verbena.
It tolerates drought and heat well- so you don't have to be so carefull about watering it. It survives the season looking neat and tidy.

Lantana looks nice and tolerates lots of sun and thrives in the heat. Another one that looks good all season

Petunias look lovely but require deadheading to keep in full bloom. But are a no-fail favorite and come in many colors.
They can get leggy late in the season but bloom so profusely it makes up for all else.

You could find all of those at your local garden center without alot of trouble. In another a month I'll be able to go to Lowe's and get started on my outside planters.

good luck and happy planting

Petunias are very good plants for cascading over the side of containers. Mums are another good cascading plant however, at first when they start to grow, you will need to train them by using a piece of wire such as a hanger so they will cascade. Once they start, they will continue to grow up to several feet.

If it is full sun, some of the vining annuals would be great: Morning Glory, Four O Clock, Sweat Pea, etc... If it is in shade, you can get the result you want by planting some impatiens and just lean them by the edge when planting them.

Everything already mentioned is good. I'd add sweet potato vines. Try "blackie", it's a dark purple variety, and the more common light green ones) with coleus (pinch off tops of coleus to make them trail.) Nasturtiums are good, too.

wavy petunias are a good choice, you don't need to dead head them like the regular petunias.
