My poor hammie! The sore is about the size of a small raisin from what I can tell. It looks like it has been bleeding. I use the recommended bedding for dwarf hamsters and her diet is a pellet/seed mix. I have had her for almost 2 months with no problems. I have another female hamster in there that is fine and they were purchased together and get along fine. I don't think she scratched herself because of where the sore is. Is it ringworm? or maybe the other hamster nipped her? Any thoughts on what it might be are appreciated and any home remedies are welcomed.

How do I soak her in warm water? As you know they are very squirmy and hard to catch. I'd like to get the dried blood off.

She should be alright, but keep an eye on it for the next few days to make sure it doen't become infected. You can try to clean it off with a little peroxide, but this can be difficult do to their size and being squirmmy. We've been trying to treat a Russian with an infected eye socket, we bought her without an eye, but noticed her socket had pus, which is why we bought her -the pet store made no attempt to treat her. If you notice any signs of infection (tenderness, redness or pus, take her to the vet for treatment. I just had to put my Syrian I had for 9 months (he may have been 3 or older, but no one knew his age, due to an abcess of the jaw after two weeks of strong antibiotics. So keep a close eye on it.

honestly, to me it sounds like the other hamster attacked her. although they were bought together, they still can fight. they are very territorial animals, so it happens. dwarf hamsters tend to be nastier then say a syrian/teddy bear hamster. anytime my hamsters were attacked, my local pet store told us to soak the infected area for 5-10 minutes in warm water, apply peroxide to the wound, and then apply neosporian. the neosporian is safe for the hamsters if they lick the wound, which they will do, not to worry it wont hurt them. just do that once a day for 2-3 days, and she will be fine. another thing, i would really reccomend that you seperate the 2 hamsters into 2 seperate containers because next time, if they are really fighting, one could wind up dead. and that is a VERY big possibility. it has happened to me wayyy too many times, so i'm just warning you from my own experience.

mostly likely the other hamster might have bit her. just let it heal on its own if it doesnt get better than you should take her to the vet
