The hole in the bodies of snails/slugs are not used to smell. They are used to breathe.
What is used to smell are the tentacles.

An active slug has 4 processes extending from the head. Two are eyes and 2 are tentacles used for sensing taste and smell.

Dunno about noeses, but I believe they have 4 nosese as well. perhaps even nose's whole question smells
