I don't think anybody has pulled off the western role as well as Clint Eastwood in that he was cool, tough and laid back but he wasn't strictly a cowboy. Loads of actors have done great westerns but John Wayne was the epitome of a cowboy.

Clint Eastwood, right from his days on Rawhide through to the spaghetti westerns. Fantastic. Followed closely by the Little Big Man, Dustin Hoffman, totally believable and then Lee Marvin and his painted waggon. Wanderin' Star, the only song I can sing in public!

I'm suprised no-one's mentioned James Stewart. A real life hero, and an equal to John Wayne any day. Or maybe Ben Johnson from The Wild Bunch.

So many to choose from, John Wayne obviously, if only for "True Grit" Clint Eastwood, has to be in there too, And does anyone here remember Hopalong Cassidy, and the Lone Ranger and Tonto? as I said so many good ones!
