It will be very difficult to track down who did it. Contacting Comcast most likely will fall on deaf ears as well. Making a strong password and keeping it to yourself is a must.

Good luck trying to find the source of the hacking. Try using a site such as Yahoo for emails. Their security is great. It is easy to set-up and the address function can allow her to notify her friends of the new address.
Hacking an Email implies knowledge of both the address and password. This was a deliberate act by someone she knew. Have her try a totally nuts email address and password for a month in Yahoo. If it remains a problem Yahoo Security will be most helpful in eliminating the hacker. No problems, she can change her address and password to a more comfortable state of words and numbers. Good Luck.

Tell her to open the email header. This site has instructions for doing that for many different email programs.

http://www.abika.com/Reports/Samples/emailheaderguide.htm

Once open, have her read down until she finds the listing for the ISP. The name of the ISP is what is important.

Have her copy the entire email including the Full Header.

Paste the email into a newly composed email. Explain nicely what is happening. Tell her to state that she considers this email to be Harassment and Cyberstalking. Tell her to be nice. Tell her to give them a time limit in which she expects a response by them. Make the time limit reasonable. A statement like "I expect and will be waiting for a response on or before (add the date). 5 - 7 days would be a reasonable response time. Remember, they must investigate this.

Send one of these email for every one she receives from that inidividual.

There is a standard email address system established for reporting abuse. That system is to address the email to: abuse@(ISP's name).com

She may want to check out this site and see if they can assist her.
