The UNABOMBER once wrote in a letter to his brother "Let's say if over the years when you touch something....suppose a banana..... and you get a horrible electric shock, and it happens again and again..you will be nervous every time you see a banana.Even when that stops happening, and you don't get electric shocks anymore, you will still feel nervous when you are around a banana....even though u r 100% sure it's just a harmless banana. That's what happened to me.After so many failed relationships and rejections,I always feel nervous about making relationships."
What happened with the UNABOMBER has also happened to me.After a decade and a half of failed relationships and bad feelings,I just don't trust anyone anymore....I have retreated to an inner world far away from people and stuck 12 hours with the computer everyday....minus 8 hours of my job and 4 hours of sleep and...VOILA...that's the story of my life. sometimes spend days without speaking a single word to anyone.
I think u might not believe some of the things I have said but that's how the life of a lonely person is.I am no longer afraid of being alone, having spent the last 6 years without even having an acquaintance...even a "Hello Bye" acquaintance. Now I find myself more in control of my emotions and feel very good.
If u r scared of being alone, which most people r, u will have to trust someone sooner or later. But if u feel (like what I discovered 9 years ago) that the pain of a broken heart is a hundred times worse than being alone, forget everyone retreat inside yourself.I would say the first option is more feasible for most people.

Getting hurt is part of life, darlin. If you don't learn to trust, then you'll never really know what could happen. Sure, you might get hurt again. In fact, you probably will, even if it's by someone who truly loves you. Something is gonna happen sometime that will hurt your feelings. But, if you don't take the chance, you'll never know. Life is for living. Take the chance. It's worth it.

Remind yourself that this new person isn't the old person, and give him a fair chance.

One way I do that is to read up on astrology books when it comes to sizing up people. While many people may not believe in astrology, and personally I don't let it define my life in a fortune-telling manner, more often than not, the personalities are quite defined in each sign. Ask for their birthdays and read up on their personality profiles of their astrological signs.

Oh come on. You know the new person is not the old person and therefore you know what the old person did you has nothing to do with the new person and is not his fault. Therefore, you have no right withholding your trust and essentially PUNISHING the new person for what the old person did to you. You know that, right?
