yes , have done the same numerous of times to both ankles !! it's dam sore . rest it and keep puttin it in ice !!! when it's better to strenghten it walk around on your tip toes ( obviuosly when your at home lol) this helps strenght the ligaments again ,also stand on one leg ( the injured one ) and try keeping your balance ,again strenghtens it .....when you damage your ligaments it affects the message being sent to your brain ,your brain does'nt know if your on solid ground or not and you can easily go over again ,these exercises will help with that !

An X-ray is used to look for bony damage not ligaments as they don't show up. They aren't dense enough.
The bruise will have to come out so I think you will be faced with a tender and off coloured ankle for weeks.
Give it about 6 weeks but if you have damaged your ligaments be aware you ankle will be weaker as you will have stretched the ligaments that hold the joint more sturdy. They will regain elasticity but that is why you would be encouraged to rest it.

Yeah - done it often - well painful! The best way to keep the swelling down is to rest the ankle & keep ice pressed against the swollen part & if you can keep it elevated that also helps: remember RICE:

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Oh & dont try & do anything like play football until it's completely healed or else you go back to square 1 - I always do this!

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

WHENEVER YOU HAVE A SOFT TISSUE INJURY IT WON'T SHOW ON AN X-RAY. BRUISING IS TO EXPECTED WHEN A SPRAIN IS INVOLVED. BANDAGING, REST, ELEVATION AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDS. LIKE IBUPROFEN WILL HELP.
EXPECT SOME SWELLING AS WELL. ONCE ITS BEEN A WHILE WARM MOIST HEAT IS BEST TO HELP, RATHER THAN ICE OR COLD WHICH IS GOOD FOR WHEN IT JUST HAPPENS. IT TAKES SEVERAL WEEKS FOR LIGAMENTS TO HEAL, SO BE PATIENT.

There are alot of tendons and ligaments in your ankle that you could have injured and yes it is normal for delayed bruising and swelling to occur.

Yes i have done this to both my ankles its very painful and you will have a lot of bruising.
When you sit down elevate your ankle on the coffee table this will help to take the pressure off of it in order to help it to heal you need to do physio on it by rotating your foot, this will hurt but you must do it in order for it to heal properly take anti inflammatory to help with the pain.
P.s it will be like this for about 6 weeks.
Good luck....
