If you are truly just taking care of your pet than i feel ; You can't go to far....
But sometimes when it comes to the extras i think it's kinda crazy...
firstly all the different treats for all the different pets... most pets would prefer something natural (as would their bellies)... whatever happened to just giving a dog a bone... (or a hamster a sunflower seed for that matter)..
And all the clothes i think are a bit crazy too... sure some pets need a coat in the cold but an outfit to match your owner is too much!!
I also have a dilemma with the weird foods; like vegetarian dog food 0_o.. i know there are some dogs who need specialized diets but i can't help but worry someone will try to force their dog to eat vegetarian because the owners a vegetarian....
Comfort things and toys are fine though IMO.. it's like with kids.. when you love them you want to do whatever you can to make them happy....

Well, letting their pet run the house is WAY too far. Not training a dog is also WAY TOO FAR. We have seven dogs. We recently put one to sleep and discovered her daughter(1 year younger than her and still with us) has cancer. Those two dogs(both ROTTWEILERS, fyi) were the two best dogs we've ever had. If you tell them to do something, they do it. The other five dogs do what they want when they want and my mom doesn't care. Thats way too far.
However, when taking care of them, there is no "too far" aspect. I plan on building a "greenhouse" like area off my livingroom for my Water dragon, Russian Torts, and my Western Painted turtle. This room will be about 20x16, and most of it will be a indoor pond for the turtle. A lot of it will be a cage for the dragon, and the leftover will be the torts night-tile/winter-time pen.
So yes and no, there are times when they go to far, and times when they dont go far enough. There are a lot of people who dont even give care to their animals, so people who make large enclousures for their animals are making up for the poor conditions others have to live in.

We have boarding at our clinic. It's a vet's office, and people will literally bring books of instructions and garbage bags of junk for their pets. That is too much. We, the technicians, know how to take care of animals.

I don't think that anything is too far when it comes to my pit bulls health. I want him to be happy and healthy all the time. He deserves it. He is my companion. When I bought him, I took on the responsiblity to take care of him.

I think it depends on what pet it is. I had a dog (but he sadly died of old age last year) and he was such a good, clever, adorable dog I just couldn't help but treat him to loads of things, but I think if you spend loads of money on a gold fish or something I think that would be abit stupid 'cos they're not as clever as pets such as dogs and cats ect...

LOL Possibly...I know I am. How far is too far? hmm...I dunno, I mean...your supposed to take care of them are you not? I guess buying your pets jewelry or clothing or something like that is my idea of weird but who am I to judge.
