I researched on the internet and it said that a common law marriage is not filed with the court. How does a couple get involved in common law marriage if there is not a ceremony? If a person has a marriage certificate at the court, doesn't that mean they are married instead of common law marraige?

Its more like domestic partnership. You file with the county registery office and not the courts. Its good for medical descissions, making sure things go into your name if something happens to the other person.

I did it myself. Its better to have it than nothing at all if you are not getting married incase you need to fight if something happens to the other person.

Most insurance groups accept it too so you can get on the other persons insurance.
