Do you think banning advertisements for alcohol and smoking is worthwhile? Why?

I suppose the main disadvantage to seeing advertisements everywhere is how cumbersome it is to flip through magazines for interesting articles only to find that the majority of the content is spam. Great way to market products but it seems that's all there is. It isn't so loud on billboards (unless they are splattered one after the other).

Banning alcohol and smoking might not be worthwhile, in that I believe most people engaging in those deadly activities are already hooked. They aren't paying attention to the advertisements anyway. Putting a restriction on where those advertisements are placed would certainly make a difference to those that are being enticed to take up those nasty habits (e.g., teens, children, etc.).

Can one ban the parents that are advertising those habits at home?

Won't matter. Most people drink the same old thing anyways. And you're definitely not going to keep the smokers away. But if they do like in Canada where they put pictures of diseased lungs and things of the like right on the pack of cigarettes, that would be worthwhile.
