I'm turning 15 and I'll be going into 9th grade this school year. It will be my first day of school(ever) as I've been homeschooled my entire life. Does anyone have any tips, like on what to expect or look out for? Also, I'm very shy. Is there some way I can get over that?

Well, high school can be a bit overwhelming depending on the size of the student body. My graduating class was 312 whereas my husband's was 750. I like bigger schools b/c then you don't run into the "everyone knows everything about everyone" stuff. I went to college in KS and my classmates saw my graduation pics on my wall and they thought it was for all the area schools. They were amazed that my whole class filled up the football field!

As far as what to expect, as you go through your classes you'll run into people that are willing to take you in as a friend and will be very nice to you. Throughout your high school career, you'll probably gain and lose friends here and there, but it's certainly not the end of the world. Watch your back and if you don't feel comfortable w/ something your "friends" are doing, don't do it. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. You'll gain a lot of respect that way. Since you're shy, to open the flow of conversation, just ask your closest classmate a homework/classwork question. At least you'll get help on your schoolwork and possibly make a new friend.

Well you will be starting high school along with all the other 9th graders, so at least people will be going through a similar experience.
As far as the first day of school, its generally a waste of time.
you find out your classes, goto your classes where the teachers go over expectations, policies, the syllabus.
some teachers do a get to know you thing, which might help you feel more comfortable with your classmates.
I was shy too.
I'd suggest joining an extracirrcular activity or club. you find people with similar interests, and being around the same people, you should feel more comfortable with them. If you start with a small group of friends, you can slowly break out of your shell and meet new people
I was in marching band/band all 4 years, so even though I was shy, I met people there who I shared similar interests with. Plus the amount of time I saw the people, I got more comfortable around them.

Ninth grade is pretty easy but it's also the grade you make new friends and this may be kind of hard for you since you are just starting school for the first time (besides homeschooling) Here are some tips that helped me to survive: 1) try to be friendly and outgoing, join clubs and see what kinds of peers are worthy to be your friends 2) be aware that there will be snobs and kids that are so rich they flaunt it in front others some girls will carry big purses and some boys will have the mohawks and the loose pants that think they are hot when they aren't so try to be yourself or your own individual 3) if you want to eat what you want pack a brown bag my school banned pop machines during the school hours and took away some of our sugary snacks b/c of the some act that went for ohio. alot of the school was bummed.
4) learn to drive by your senior year it's stupid that kids think that your uncool if u do not drive your senior year but that's what they think of me 5) be on time and avoid tardies + get good grades so (if your thinking of college) you can be elgible for college scholarships 5) do not be eaisly influenced by others this can be not helpful and may decrease the chance of you making the right decisions

High School can be tough. Expect lots of noise and motion. Get a map of the school before and find where your classes will be, so you won't get lost. Tour the school before you start and get to know the layout. Find some people that are going to be in the same grade and maybe even some of the same classes. Get to know them and make friends. Most importantly talk to the counselors with any concerns you have. Don't be afraid to ask the teachers if you need something.

No-human beings do no longer care on the subject of the 1st week. they're all entering into the groove and too busy to word. start up your new sort the 2nd week or perhaps later. expect random violence. people will try to sell you drugs, even the teachers. The teachers don't speak proper English, and will pressure you to join the Communist Party (Or the Democrat Party - same thing).

Bring your lunch, as the cafeteria will serve moldy bread or McDonald's. Your classmates will all be illegal aliens, who are living on government money.

If you express any kind of religiosity, expect to be expelled, then killed, then expelled again. You will be forced to act out other religion's practices, and of you don't - you will get an F. You will have sacrifice animals (they call it "dissection").

Your bus driver will do everything in his power to kill you.

So pick your friends wisely. You will probably be forced to join a gang that matches your skin color. They will tattoo you.

Enjoy!
