Whether we hate to admit or not, Kobe Bryant is such a skilled all around basketball player. He has the complete package of an ideal player. But sad to say, most people see the negatives in him. If we are going to be open minded about his accomplishments at this time, we can surely say that the cards to greatness is crystal clear. He will continue to improve and I think if in the near future he meets our measurments of greatness, there is a big possibility that he'd be included in everyones top 5 players of all time, if not the best of all time. Who knows that he might be able to break the most points scored in a career, or winning at least 6 championships, or scoring most point per game and still having 5+ rebounds and assists per game. The future for him looks bright and is in the open. Therefore, I'd say that with all respect to everyones opinion, Kobe Bryant is in the right direction.

Kobe is a great player, but to become one of the top five of all-time he has to lead his team through the playoffs and win championships on his own. Right now, he's good, but he still has to be able to do that as the lead. He was on a great team with Shaq on those three championship teams, and he didn't do the job Dwayne Wade did then. Still Kobe is pretty good, but the talent level now also seems a bit higher, so for his generation, he's not so elevated as say Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, or Kareem were. He still has time to do those things, but you get the feeling that he's peaked and we won't see him do anything new than what he's been doing this year. He might break the top ten, but the top five I'd say no.

The top five players of all time are Jordan, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Russell, Oscar Robertson and Bird. I know there are 7 of them, but it is too difficult to knock 2 off that list. The key difference between these 7 and Kobe is that they are all great passers (not Russell as much, but he is the ultimate team player) and they all made their teammates better.
Kobe has the ability, but by splitting up the Shaq, Phil, Kobe threesome he demonstrated that he is not a team player. To be one of the top five of all time, in a team sport he will have to bend over backwards for the rest of his career to change this opinion of him.

It's going to be tough to crack the top 5 with players like Jordan, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Kareem since these guys all redefined their positions and really brought up the game of basketball. However, if Kobe continues to play the way he does and ends up winning another championship, there wouldn't be a question that he would go down as the MOST DANGEROUS ALL AROUND PLAYER of all time.
It's the way that Kobe can play shutdown defense, his all around game that distinguishes him from those top 5 guys. Magic was a better all around player, but Magic never had the dangerous arsenal of offensive weapons Kobe has right now. Jordan was unstoppable, but his outside shot consisted of 18-20 feet fadeaways as he rarely ventured out to shoot the three ball as Kobe has implemented into his game. Bird was a great shooter and played with heart, but his defense wasn't exactly shutdown.

Some can argue that Kobe Bryant is already one of the top five players of All time... but that brings up the question of who is currently the top five players of All Time, because I'm sure that answer will vary also.

I'm a big Lakers fan. And I do like Kobe's game alot, specially this year. But I won't put him in the top 5 at this moment. Since I have Jordan, Bird and Magic in the front court in my top 5, I don't see a spot for him in the top 5. Even if you don't go with the standard top 5 with one in each position, those 3 are still in the top 5 with Kareem and possibly Wilt, Big O, or even Malone.
So as much as I do like Kobe, probably not in the top 5....maybe in the top 10, but for sure in the top 15.

Of my top 5 players of all time, who do you bump?
1. MJ
2. Larry Bird
3. Magic Johnson
4. Wilt Chamberlain
5. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
He'll be in the updated version of the top whatever greatest players of all time. Needs more rings and at least 1 or 2 MVP awards. Finals MVP's. On the championship teams he was Scottie to Shaq's MJ. And the team he is on will not win it all for quite some time. His talent is rotting away. Which is cool with me. He needs another great player along side him for him to win it all. He'll get an MVP award before he's done. But not anywhere near the top 5 greatest of all time. I'm not sure if he's in top 5 greatest Lakers of all time.

Wow, top 5.... That is a tough list to crack into. In no order you have Jordan, Bird, Magic, Jabbar, Wilt, Shaq, Maravich ,Stockton, Isaiah, Dr. J, this is a tough list to crack. And since you said All-Time that makes it even harder. If Kobe can win 2 more championships before the end of his career I will give him top 5 of all time. #1 and #2 are a lock so he's fighting for 3-5..

I hate Kobe Bryant an awful amount. Everything he does just makes me mad he doesnt pass he complains about eveyrthing and i hate his attitude. But i cannot deny the fact that that man knows how to put the ball in the basket. But he is not one of the best 5 players of all time. He is nowhere near Dr J, MJ, Wilt Chamberlain, or Larry Bird

No, Kobe still has time but for now he is no way close to being in the top five of all time. Right now he is in the top 10-15.
