Because we do want to believe that love CAN last forever.

Because the value of most things is not judged by how close to "forever" they last. Even things that are transient and temporary can evoke strong emotions - like a beautiful sunset on the beach; is it any less valuable or awe-inspiring just because it only lasts at most half an hour? To use your logic - why bother doing anything at all? Nothing lasts forever, including ourselves, our children, our grandchildren, this planet. While this thinking is, technically, accurate - it is not parctical to employ it in our daily lives. In order to function, we have to find value in people, things, events, relationships that has nothing to do with the actual duration of time they are going to last. Is it any less rewarding to give birth to a beautiful baby when you know that this baby is not going to live forever? Sometimes, the very transience and fragility of something makes up appreciate and value it even more. Relationships are fragile, and don't always work out for the best - but they are rewarding and life-sustaining. As social creatures, we would deteriorate without love and companionship. And so it's worth it for us to find this love, this companionship - even if it means taking our chances to get hurt. Is it that hard to understand?

I think that people get married because they hope to stay together. They find someone who really makes them want to think about being in a relationship forever. Love. Security of having a soft spot to fall when things go wrong. Everyone has a reason to think about forever...even if its not their first marriage.

Wow...

If "nothing lasts forever" why do we even bother getting out of bed in the morning? Doesn't sound very encouraging...

No, nothing lasts forever. That's why I'm getting the maximum amount of pleasure out of life, and out of our relationship.

Life is short. Commit to something. Take a stand. Believe in something.

I always tell people where I work and my family, if you want a guarantee, buy a toaster. Bottom line, there are no guarantees in life.

However, when we marry, we hope that it's for all our lives and we start out with optimism, hope and faith. It's all we've got.

I'm sorry you're bitter but just because things didn't work out for you doesn't mean they don't work out for others. So far, things have worked out pretty well for me, so I'm still sold on the institution of marriage.

marriage isn't forever...people and mostly woman have had fairy tale dreams pounded into their head since they were 3. If parents taught their kids more realistic views on life..less people would end up depressed. Marriage isn't just love..its hard work and sacrfice..but no one teaches you that..they teach you...I love you forever and beyond crap. People are misslead in life and need to open their eyes.

dam thats a good question...I guess I never thought of that lol

My Opinion
marriage is an eternal bond...even after one of you die you are still considered married in gods eyes and when you die and go to heaven or hell that person will be there waiting for you to continue where you left off....

So i guess marriage does last forever..provided you dont get divorced or remarry after being widowed

Why -- I guess in this stupid socity one must remind the selfesh population that sex leads to children and hence why we all have to be responsible in the first place.
