IF (and only if) your body is really ready then 'helpers' might work...
Castor oil is an old favourite but that's because it's PROVEN to work if you're ready. Yes, you will be uncomfortable and yes you will spend some time on the toilet BUT you should be in labour within 24 hours!! (put a teaspoon in orange juice and chug it down) You may to repeat. If this doesn't work, you get nothing but a lot of time on the toilet...so weigh your options
Blue and black cohosh also work to move things along but you have to be soooo careful with dosage. Speak with someone at a health food/vitamin store for more information on these.
Sex may work, nipple stimulation is supposed to work but I've had 5 babies (pregnant with number 6) and neither of those two worked or were enjoyable when I was big and uncomfortable.
(oh and yes, I used castor oil for 3 of my births but I was 41 weeks)
Good luck and be safe.

Try sex the best way is "doggy style" it worked with my first child I was 2 days late and we tried that once in the morning and once at night the next day I was in labor and to start with I was not dilated. I think I remember reading that there is something in sperm that can make you go into labor but I might be wrong hope this helps.

I tried castor oil mixed with orange juice and just succeeded in making myself throw up! It works (if you can hold it down) by basically giving you diahorrea. You then go into labour because of the excessive straining. The midwife will recognise you've taken it as you will probably soil yourself during the birth and it will be oily and she will tell you off. I found that intercourse works as there's something in sperm that helps open the cervix. Keep on your feet, walking around as this will help. I also found that a nice, warm bath didn't actually make it happen faster but will keep your mind off and help with pain.

Castor oil, walking, sex- these are all tried and true methods of bringing on labor. I would avoid the cohosh as it's too dicey and dangerous. Raspberry leaf tea is another thing you can try, but again, watch the amount you use, it's ben known to cause miscarriages in the early stages of pregnancy.
Good luck!

I feel for yu and I remember reading all kinds of remedies before my girls were born. I wish I had an answer for you. Your baby will come when he/she is ready. Try and relax, take a nice bath. If you feel up to it go for a walk. Sex and 40 weeks pregnant might work but lets face it you don't want to. Best of luck and good luck with the baby. Oh and can I say, "EPIDURAL"!!!

I agree with the walking and maybe intercourse if your not too uncomfortable!! With my first child I did drink the castor oil along with my best friend who was due on the same day!! We both went into labor a few hours later and delivered a few hours apart!! It doesn't taste vey good, we mixed it with orange juice and drank it quickly!! Good Luck It will happen when its time!!

Get a real good massage... it worked for me. Actually I didn't know that's what it was suppose to do but my mom's friend started massaging my lower back one evening after work, just 2 days before my due date and she told me i bet you're in labor tomorow morning. Yes, I was at the hospital at 1pm the next day.
It relaxes your muscles so you start contracting. Good luck

I wouldn't have sex unless you were out of pain, but that induces it and makes it go easier. I would call your doctor and tell him the pain has gotten worse. Your baby is fully developed, so he is jus being mean no inducing you. Good luck!

I am 39.5 weeks pregnant so feel for you as I too am also uncomfortable. I have tried alot of "natural methods" to induce labour, but so far nothing has worked for me, but they might work for you. Sex, walking, eat pineapple, eat spicy foods, take raspberry leaf tea. I personally would stay away from Castor Oil as it can cause fetal distress as baby might aspirate his/her meconium (first stool). Good luck...and let me know what worked for you!

Walk. The movement is good for your circulation, and by implication, that of your baby. The gravity and slight jarring motion will both work to open you up and speed up all bodily processes. Good luck to you and congratulations!
