Food Guide
Where to Eat
There is no shortage of places to eat in Cameron Highlands when it comes to food. At night (especially during during weekends & holidays) restaurants are packed since there's very little to do after the sun goes down.
You can get everything from Western, Chinese, Indian and Malay food to Thai and Japanese food here. Most restaurants are located in Tanah Rata and Brinchang however you could also find some good restaurants in Tringkap and Kampung Raja where the locals usually dine.
There is no food which is unique to Cameron Highlands however dining out here can be a great experience especially with to the cold weather and freshness of the greens. The favorites are :
Steamboat Dinner
Having steamboat for dinner on a cold highlands night is something you should never miss. There are a lot of restaurants in Tanah Rata and Brinchang which offers this treat. Price starts from RM12-RM22 per person.
Tea & Scones
This English tradition is still alive and popular here in Cameron Highlands. Locally grown tea and freshly baked scones is a must try on your trip to Cameron Highlands. Although it is available in a lot of places around Cameron Highlands, only a few places serve really good scones.
Top Restaurant - 2006
The final list is out! Most of the feedback I got were from the forums, mails and from the streets of Tanah Rata.
The top restaurants in Cameron Highlands are :
(In no particular order)
T-Cafe
Restoran Bunga Suria
British India Restaurant (Bala's Chalet)
Highland Restaurant

-strawberry farm
-flower nurseries
-tea plantation
-butterfly garden
or shoppin..dun miss out the market
Markets
The main tourist market is located around Kea Farm but you can also find many of them all along the main road from Ringlet to Kg.Raja.
On Saturday nights, the weekly night market comes to live in Brinchang. This is where you can find all the produce of Cameron Highlands being sold under the stars. You can get everything cheap here if you know how to bargain. This is also a place to get some good "pasar malam" food.
In the recent years, there have been "all-in-one" type of markets where you can find small flower nursery, a strawberry garden, vegetable garden, souveniers and other Cameron Highlands produce all in one location.
Multicrops Central Market
You can get everything here from potted plants, frest flowers, cactus, strawberries, vegetables, tea and other Cameron Highlands produce.A small coffeshop and cartoon strawberry garden can also be found here.
Location : Along the main road if you are heading north from Brinchang. Just 1km from Brinchang town.

Cameron Highlands is relatively a nice place for relaxation.
I have been looking out for those asking about Cameron Highlands becos I want to warn them not to stay at Hotel Equatorial..... I will stop sending such message until they respond to me about my bad experience in December 2006 (water heater not working and got to do my own housekeeping right after I check into the room).

Cameron Highlands from Kg Raja at one end to Ringlet at the other is nearly two hours' drive in distance. In between are the popular towns of Brinchang (the highest town) and Tanah Rata. Only a few minutes' drive separate the two and these are the popular destinations and where the majority of accommodations are. The temperature varies nowadays though it is generally cold at night. There's much, much more to CH than tea farms and rose gardens! However, because visitors bring in the cash, many 'attractions' are more commercial than natural. Still there are lots of old and new things to see and experience... cactus farms, strawberry fields, bee farms, waterfalls, aboriginal (orang asli) settlements, day & evening markets, colonial mansions, temples, golf, organic vegetables... On shopping, please note that not all vegetables sold there are grown in Cameron Highlands, some are 'imported' (like the sweet potatoes, from Indonesia!).
Personally, I prefer to stay at the Rosa Pasedena Hotel in Brinchang as it is in the middle of the town within walking distance to the evening market, to surrounding scenic and touristic attractions. I also stay at Casa dela Rosa midway between the two towns and facing a golf course so I can have my exercises! Depending on your budget, there are high-end ones like Equatorial (lacks charm), Ye Olde Smokehouse (very nice, rustic but expensive) to family ones like Country Lodge and Iris Hotel (both in the middle of Brinchang), Heritage, Lone Pine etc in Tanah Rata. There are also many apartments for rent. Contact me (amn1717@yahoo.com> if you need help as I'll be going there next weekend.

my true advise, its not that cold so dont bring your leather jacket or woolen clothings. U can still sweat and perspire in your sleeveless top and short pants. But do bring your camera. And oh i love the tea plantations. Strawberry park was not as i expected. but they sell fantastic strawberry jam, do buy a few jars coz the imported ones in our supermarket cannot match the jam they sell at the park. Food outside the hotel are plenty but not that worth remembering. But i did enjoy my stay coz i love the greenery. And i will go back someday.
