My husband is deploying in May. Does anyone have any cute ideas on things to send him to keep his morale up while overseas?

Here is a tip. You can use flat rate boxes to send him stuff. Everything you can put in the bx for only $8.10. You can also order a military care kit from the post office. It includes boxes, tape, labels, custom forms and everything yo will need to send him the package (except contents of course).

This kit may be ordered by calling the USPS Expedited Package Supply Center at 1-800-610-8734. There is no charge for the kit. The Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes included in the kit can be shipped to any APO/FPO in the world, regardless of weight, for $8.10.

Depending where he is, pork products, and naughty pictures are no no's.
Make sure you send him mail often. It doesn't matter what you send, it's more the frequency of them getting mail. To know that there is someone back home taking time to send mail, and often, is the biggest moral boost you can imagine. Small portable travel sized stuff is often best, as they will not have alot of room. You might get a mini tape recorder, and record days events, what is going on, or read a story or book onto tape. Hearing your voice will be a huge boost. If you send goodies, send extra, as he will share with his buddies and unit, some of them will not have anyone at home sending things, and to know there are those back home will raise their moral, and high moral can be contagious, and keep others moral up.

Speaking from experience of being deployed, anything will make him feel good. Try and send some of his favorites to him, if he has a favorite hobby, send that. We have a guy here that loves motorcycles, his wife sent him a remote control one, is was funny but sweet. More importantly, keep communication open and please don't do anything you'll regret later. Not saying that you would, but you wouldn't believe the kinds of things some of these wives do to their husbands. From sleeping around to spending all of their money, its hard enough being away without having to worry about things like that. Good Luck, its going to be hard but what your husband is doing is very important to the country.

Yeah, I'm currently deployed overseas right now, and I love getting things from my wife... it makes me feel loved and remembered. Find out the little things that your husband really likes and send those along with the occassional card and pictures to him.

For me, I really like things like crystal light, trail mix, peanuts, etc. You know the little commodities that are hard to find out here in the desert. And make sure to write him personal letters too... I love it when my wife sends me long letters with encouraging words. Usually she'll spray her perfume on the letter or envelope so I can feel like were close to eachother.

When my sister was in Desert Storm we sent her boxes with a lot of the foods that she likes that she could not get there. Things that are packaged well and in sturdy containers are best. We also sent lots of pictures and letters. We would also send cassettes we recorded with each person talking to her and keeping her informed of things going on at home. Of course now most people don't have portable cassette players but you can buy them, so that may be a good gift to send. A tape with you talking to him and keeping him informed along with a portable cassette player and batteries. So each week or so you could send a tape and he could here your voice and feel closer to you.

Maybe send something with him that means alot to u, something small that he could carry with him so he has a part of u even when u are so far apart. Send a special picture of the two of u that he could look at when he is missing u, and if u have any children, then one of them also.

I sent mine some of his favorite cookies, and candies from home, also pictures of our family and silly little notes that I knew he would like with little inside jokes between us. Also, something really cute to do (and reassuring bc alot of the times the guys are worried we will get lonely and look for someone else ) I sent him an old fashioned key "to my heart" to let him know I was thinking about him all the time and was waiting for him to come home.

I just back - Don't give him anything to think about. If he's going to iraq he has to remain focused at all times! Anything cute may get him killed. Really, I did my 2nd tour and it was hella scary. The first time round wasn't bad, but now.. you don't know which way to look. Its just like vietnam but in a ash tray rather then a jungle.
The guy or girl standing next to you could kill you in a blink of the eye. You don't know who the enemy is.

My suggestion. Maybe a photo of you two. Keep it simple. Food is always good. Socks, t-shirts. Boot inserts. Hard candy. batteries, silly string, gum

start writing letters now like he's already over there. send them with him the day he leaves so that way you can tell him exactly how you felt the last few days he was home. send lots of pics of you and yes even do some naughty ones. tell him how much you support him and he will be fine.

They make a picture frame that has a recorder on it (I think they sell these at Wal-Mart)..... Put his favorite picture of you or a current one and record a special message just for his ears only something he can listen to when he is thinking about you.... Speak quietly unless you want his bunk mate to hear it too, lol - He can hear your voice when he sees you..... Send him a small voice recorder and then send him regular updates on whats going on with you.....
