This doesn't really make any sense.

Why would a shut-out be worth any extra points?

If you Win 1-0, why would you get more points than a team that won 9-1?

It would negatively impact the game by making teams act more defense with a lead. Instead of trying to expand their lead, anyone winning 2-0 would only attempt to shut down the offense and hope for 3 points. It would also make goaltending an even more important part of the game than it already is.

Would a 0-0 regulation Tie be worth more?

And though you will probably not pick a best answer that doesn't agree with you, I do have to say this is a stupid, random idea that makes no sense at all and wasn't thought through.

I honestly liked it the old way back before the new OT rule came into play.

Win = 2 Points
Tie = 1 Point
Lose = 0 Points

The extra point for a shutout is completely unjustifiable. There's a big difference between a 50 shot SO and a 20 shot SO, so why should they be both worth more points than a regular legitimate win?

Even as a New Jersey Devil fan, I say HELL NO! That would be so confusing, and it would make races much less exciting. Imagine your team needs a shutout victory to make the playoffs? Forget about it, you'd be hopeless. Its fine as it is now.

No. Goaltending should and is a difference maker but the defense should not be given a bonus point. If you do this then teams will stress defense again, coaches will go back to the trap and try to slow the pace of the game... and I LOVE defensive hockey but I would not want that.

No. A win is a win. i hate the 3 point thing already. Why should you get a point for losing in overtime?

You could lose all 82 games in OT and still make the playoffs!
