I don't think they do have the equipment in the OB/GYNs offices. They will check your belly and you will hear the heartbeat but for the ultrasound you will most likely need to go somewhere else. Congrats! and good luck with the baby

I'll look past the fact that you waited so long and simply say that while some offices do have the equipment in their offices, not all do. Even if it is on site, you will still have to schedule an appointment specifically for the ultrasound, which can take up to 2 weeks. It needs to be scheduled because you'll need a full bladder before the exam. Good luck!

My OB-GYN has an untrasound machine right in his office...now. With my first child, I had to get a referral and go to my local hospital and get it done. But.. i knew the sex of my baby as soon as they did the ultrasound both times. With the lastest ultrasounds, they gave me some really cool 3-D pictures of her.. good luck!!! oh and by the way.. i went for my ultrasound at 20 weeks and they knew the sex then so you are in good shape to find out at 28 weeks!!!

My OB did my frist ultrasounds in his office when I was about 7 weeks just to make sure everything was ok. I was having some spotting and he wanted to check everything out. But when I had my 20 week ultrasound I had it done at the hospital in the radiology dept. They have the better ultrasound to get a better picture and mesaurements.

Some ob/gyn offices have their own equipment, you might want to ask them if they do. Most offices that have them like to play around with the equipment too so I am guessing that if they had ultrasound equipment you would already know.

My OBGYN has a very sophisticated ultrasound machine...I have gotten a few ultrasounds at the Dr's office HOWEVER, my big ultrasound where they did tons of measurements and told me the sex I had to go to an ultrasound place which required a referral from my OBGYN.
Why is this your first at 28 weeks? They should be able to tell you the gender since you are that far along.

It has been my experience that most ob/gyns do have the equipment in their office. Depending on your insurance you might need a referral. If you have a straight hmo, you will need one referral from your primary care provider and then the ob/gyn will be able to refer if needed and run any test. If you have a ppo plan then you do not need a referral. If you are not sure which one you have then check with your insurance or your primary care provider.

That depends on if they have an ultrasound tech on staff. If not they may send you to the hospital or to another office, where it will be done. With my daughter, I had one done in the Dr's office, but with my second child I had a different Dr. and I had to go somewhere else. Just call and ask where the ultrasounds typically take place. Congrats and Good luck.

It all depends on your OB. My doctor does not have one, and sends me to an offsite location. I personally prefer it this way. I go to one of the best ultrasound places in the area.

When you go to the doctor for the appointment, if they don't have the equipment right there, they will set you up and honestly they can get you in more quickly than you would be able to get an appt. My doc set up mine and it was schedule for Thursday of the next week - I could have had Monday, but I wanted my husband to be able to be with me!!! CONGRATULATIONS
