If you're serious, the answer is that it is not that unusual - in fact many Royal family trees are full of married cousins (they wanted to keep their bloodlines pure) . However, after years of inbreeding it was noticed that the offspring of these marriages tended to suffer from many health issues - the most prevalent being hemophilia, aka the Royal disease.
If you're not serious, then the answer is that it happens all the time in Kentucky...

It's not unheard of, but it does raise eyebrows. I knew a person in college, and her parents are first cousins. And no, she did not have any defects. She was a perfectly normal person. I can see where defects might happen, if the family inbreeds a lot, but in her case she was ok, because her parents were the only ones in her family that were related that married. I accept cousins to fall in love, but I have more of an issue with siblings, ie, brother and sister falling in love. If you're in love with your cousin, I say go for it. What is going to stop you? As long as the two of you are ok with it, who cares what people think?

I have heard of this before. I have a friend who married her 2nd cousin. Also other people have done this as well. I feel cousins should not marry because it is somewhat like sister and brother. I have heard though that it is okay as long as it is after the 5th cousin. Why did you want to know? Are you in love with yours?

It is not unusual at all, and far from being unheard of. There are many states where it is legal for first cousins to marry.

It's not unusual...in Arkansas! Times have changed! It's alot easier to meet someone who is NOT related to you. I'm sorry if I sound mean but it has more of an effect on people than you think! What if this couple has children? They will have deffects! And I know this for a fact because of a couple I knew who were cousins, they had 4 kids, and there was something wrong with each of them. Not to mention their parents are related! How embarrassing in this day and age for a kid to tell someone, "yeah, my mom and dad... are related" Ewwww!!!!! Who in their right mind would do that!????

No it isnt. i have however heard abt first cousins (eg yr father's brothers sons/daughter) but luv sees no boundries. i dont think it makes a difference what yr relationship is with that person at the moment but what its going to be is what is important.
