Its designed to be opened by the Microsoft install process... it's a compressed .exe file.

Depending on the product revision there are different programs on the CD or diskettes that unpack them for you... you need to find the relevant program on the install media and run it against the file.

Of course, if the file isn't part of a Microsoft distribution set, then I've no idea... there is no copyright on the suffix so someone else may have used .ex_ to mean files of a completely different type.

.ex_ files are often included in installs - after you do the actual installation it should work. I think you can actually rename the file to whateveritwas.exe - i.e. change the _ to an e and you may be able to execute it. HOWEVER - that could be a really bad thing if you don't know exactly what it is or what it does.

hm.. i think and ex_ is an incomplete exe file.. did you download it?
if so.. try downloading it again, or just manually rename it to .exe (and executable file) so it needs no other programs to run.
