A lot of computer manufacturers put the jumpers on the "cable select" position. I would set the jumper on the new DVD burner to the "Master" jumper setting. Remove the CD-ROM to make a space for the DVD burner and set the CD-RW to "Slave" jumper setting.

If you have the Latest, it should not need different pin settings, but the web site for the Burner should show what pin settings are needed.
XP Pro has its own built in Burning capacity. But I would strongly recommend Roxio as an option, since the adaptec drivers are the best

Take a look at the My Computer Screen. CDROM Drive D: is almost always default for your Master, while drive E: is your slave.

To answer this, open My Computer, right click Drive D, select Eject and see which drive pops open. Do the same for Drive E. Remember the drive you want to replace, keep mental note, and that will be the drive to remove.

it's pretty simple. just open up your computer and unplug one of the CD drives. then you just plug in the DVD burner with the same cords. there is one spot where you might have to change which pins are connected so make sure the connector is in the same place. provided you're running XP you shouldnt have to install the hardware, it should just work.
