I had a business partner who basically stole/defrauded me of mine and my family's life savings and left me with a mound of debt (used to have spotless credit). For those of you who lie, believe your lies, scheme and figure out angles to screw someone - how do you feel? Any remorse? Are you just numb? Or did someone do it to you so you are "getting even" with the world? Do you consider yourself sick? What could make you change your behavior?

I don't steal or defraud, but I can offer an opinion. Most people who steal or defraud are addicted to drugs. Their goal is to get more money for drugs, regardless of where it comes from.

Then there are others who will confess and apologize - some of these may stop the behavior and perhaps even repay the debt.

Then there's the criminals. Many of them are addicts/alcoholics also. They don't care about you. It's all about them. Some are clean-cut scam artists. Others were just raised in an environment where stealing and going to jail is a part of their life. I've seen parents TEACH their kids how to steal.

And it might just be the opportunity - having access to a lot of money - temptation high & a feeling they won't get caught or an intention of paying back the money before they get caught. All kinds of justifications can take place.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Well, it depends. To some people, it does feel good, like if done for revenge. But to most, they probably don't even know they are doing wrong, so they feel nothing. Or they are so caught up in their greed and what they want that they just don't care.

Most of the people who do such things are sociopaths; they have no conscience. The only thing that might reform them would be prison time and substantial fines. I hope your partner is in police custody.

It actually feels pretty good to do it, believe it or not.
