Here is what I am trying to understand by this word, this was written in my last question so you will know what I am refering to:

Please explain this personality type.

A female who flirts very much with you, but then you find out that she has many "friends" tagging along with her at the same time , and you thought you were the only one , and then she lies about things to try and cover up, but still tries to get you to tag along ? And she does not just lie, I think she just forgets what she said last time because she has spoken to so many of her other "friends" that day. But she is an incredible flirt. (meaning flirtatious) And I dont think she even takes anybody serious, maybe her ex.
Serious question what is wrong with this person?

i think insecure means unsure. someone can be insecure about their ability to find a boyfriend/girlfriend. so since they're insecure about it, they try really hard to get a partner and end up having a lot of "friends" to make them feel better about themselves.

Shes insecure of men in her life. Meaning she, most likely when growing up did not have a father figure or did but then he ran away creating a need to always be around men. Its an insecurity that can only be met by the attention of men, both good and bad attention, thats why she doesn't care of the consequences. Shes and incredible flirt because of so many years of "trying to fill this void. That does not mean that she can't be helped. One day she will find someone good enough to fill this void so that she can be true but since she may be young still that might not be for awhile. She needs to explore and full as much as she can and when shes had her fill then you can take her seriously.

Hope that helped

Being insecure is very difficult to define.

Its generally someone who is not happy with themselves on a deep psychological level. I would say in your example the person feels they need to act in a certain way to gain attention and therefore feel good about themself.

Perhaps they had an unhappy childhood due to abusive parents, teachers or bullies at school. Being insecure can even be the result of someone simply not being happy with the way they look- this is often the case with teenage girls who are made to feel that being slim and attractive is the ultimate goal.

Unfortunately you can't simply cure someone in an instant from being insecure, its something that will come with time and experience as they get older. All you can do is be supportive and reassuring- ultimately the person must deal with their own personal issues. Until they do this they are likely to continue to behave in the same way.

I think deep down this girl is simply seeking attention

Insecure means lacking confidence in a certain area. If I'm insecure about my social abilities, it means I'm not going to assert myself due to fear that I will not know what to say, etc. It often shows itself as fear, uneasiness, or passivity/shyness. But there are different kinds of insecurities. Some people try to be someone that they are not to impress other people (sounds like this girl is that way). Others just don't get involved at all because they don't have the courage.
Either way, you can help someone feel less insecure by treating them with confidence. Get them to shine in an area important to them and they will stop either trying to show off or being a wallflower.
