There can be many dangers to induction. Dangers to the mother and dangers to the baby. If your body is not ready to delivery, the induction may result in a c-section. If your dates are off, your baby could be born preterm...w/ possible health risks. Some drugs used for induction carry the risk of uterine rupture, amniotic embolus, and others.

I can understand sever sciatic pain. I had back pain after a lower back injury for many years. My first pregnancy was extraordinarily painful towards the end. During my second, my doula introduced me to her husband who was a chiropractor. After a few adujustments, the sciatica went AWAY!!! I continue to get regular adjustments and it has NEVER returned.

PErhaps you could find a chiropractor in your area or even an acupuncturist.

Good luck.

Hey there,
Though sciatica is a common problem, it is really surprising that often it is hard to tell why a person suffers from this ailment. This is why it is often referred to as a back pain complex. Even experienced doctors find it difficult to pinpoint a cause. Number of medical conditions lead to sciatica such as stress and trauma at any point on spinal cord or lower back. This is understandable but when a person feels this pain and the underlying causes are as general as obesity or pregnancy, it presents a vague picture to the doctor. There can be many more underlying causes that require supervision and treatment at the right time.

The maternity ward cannot induce you without instructions from your doctor. Your best bet is to bug the living hell out of your doctor. I know it sounds horrible, but being in pain while pregnant is also horrible. And, as a pregnant sciatica sufferer myself I feel for you!!

At thirty seven weeks the baby's lungs are developed. And, even more so at 38 weeks. I'd get on the phone with your doctor...

They will say your being selfish. You are not full term yet...they normally only induce for certain medical reasons..sciatica is not one of them (though it is VERY painful) You are not overdue or anything so I would say just take it easy!!! Get some sleep now while you can..and play with your nipples..(it can stimulate labor) and just be happy your baby has stayed in you that long that way he will be nice and healthy!

Go see a chiropractor that works on pregnant women. I had this with all four of my pregnancies and he was a miracle worker. It will never go away for good but going in once a week to see him was absolute heaven and relief. Plus it will make it easier after labor if your body is already been adjusted. Good Luck, I feel ya'. It reminds me of the things I hated with pregnancy now that I started my fifth one.

i'm so sorry to hear about your pain. i go through the same thing with each pregnancy. my dr wouldn't induce. however i did find an incredible massage therapist and she was able to help with the pain. after a couple sessions the pain was almost completely gone. good luck
