Not anytime soon. The market of which you speak is based on the cost-benefit of the devices. USB and Hard drives cost quite a bit currently, and are re-usable, hence they are good for home and office applications. CD's and dvd's however, cost anly pennies to manufacture, so manufacturers will still use them for years to come.

yea i doubt that. cd's aren't what people buy at the store they buy the art they pay for the warping around the cd before you open it. and then the music. well a small amount of people. anyways pen drive would save the planet since you wouldn't have to worry about paper. but then again unless you hve an expensive stereo to input aux for your ipod or usb. no chance plus imagine you could have any song in the world for free. hmmm.... lol
