I am having a dispute with my local council about how they have and are dealing with my housing case and as I have come to the end of their complaints system they are just pointing me in the direction of the ombudsman people. Are these actually any good or will I be wasting my time as I seem to have done by complaining to the local council??
I fit their criteria to handle my complaint but as I don't know anything about ombudsman or what they do I'd just like some more info of others experiences if they have ever used them for anything.
Thanks

its a grey area..omnsbudsman access is set up to favour government. You would be really something special to get positive help from them, be sure of your evidence against the council first, they have a system of secret coded languauge between departments and they are privvy to information you are not. Just be warned, your going against a corrupt system and they don't give a toss about people like you and me.

There are many different kinds of Ombudsman, all are government related. I delt with an Omsbudsman in a local office only having to contact my state Governor to resolve my problem.
Omsbudman are suppose to have better training in complaints and office policies, inform you quarterly on the status of your situation, put your situation in a priority stack but they change the Omsbudsman so often that nothing gets done, that's what happened in my case. I also talked with the regional Ombudsman who still couldn't resolve my issue. If you are willing to wait and deal with a local or regional Ombudsman, but, I say take it straight to the top and work from there.

I think it really all depends, my experience with one was with my previous employer ( a major computer company), with the way they fired me, a lot of times the ombudsman are there for the little guy, but too many times they are just another tool in the pocket of some corporation. Sorry I have not had a good experience with them, and in some cases I feel as though they are a waste of salary.

as far as i know (might be wrong) generally the consumer copmlaints service deals with the complaint first and decide whether to take action or not. if not than you get refered to an ombudsman and they than check if the complaint was handled correctly and make the final desicion. So if they have the last say they must be good right?
hope that was somewhat what you were looking for
good luck
