i really dont think so, but he might be. MIchael Vick is still an above average quaterback... maybe they're preparing for the future?

No he's not. If you look at the numbers, Schaub has a career QB rating of 69.2,completed 52% of his passes, and has a 1:1 TD-INT ration. Vick has a career QB rating of 75.7, completed 53% of his passes, and has a TD-INT ratio of1.4:1. Seems like switching to Schaub is a lateral move. But wait...Vick is the only QB in the world that can get you 1000 yards on the ground in addition to his passing yards. With that jacked up line and stonehand receivers, even the great Peyton Manning would be reduced to a laughingstock. Stick with Vick, give the kid some WR's to catch for him, some OL's to keep him upright, and trade Schaub while the market is good for him. I know the last time you traded a backup, it didn't work out so well (Brett Favre), but this is a totally different time, situation, and player.

This will be a make or break year for Michael Vick. If Vick underperforms, expect the Falcons to deal him after next season and make Schaub the starter. Schaub can easily command a second round pick in this years draft, so the Falcons know that in a worst case scenario, they are going to get a second rounder in next years draft because at that time, someone will have to go.

Also, Vick has a propensity to get hurt. It's a wise idea to have a guy like Schaub around in case something happens.

The reason the falcons offered him the highest tender was because so many teams are were looking to sign him away. the falcons were scared, a team would write up a contract and include a poison pill similar to the ones the viking's used to steal away hutchinson last year from seattle last year. So they offered the highest tender and if a team tried to sign him then they woul have to give the falcons a 1st and 3rd round pick as compensation.

As for schuab's value to the falcons, the falcons are just not sure whether Vick is the one to lead them to a championship. it is probably his last year here, especially with incidents like flicking off the fan, getting caught with marijuana. so its a nice insurance policy to have in case vick doesnt work out. But Schaub's abilities is hard to determine cause he hasnt played. Watching him in limited action and in college i think he has the tools to be a good solid quarterback.

He is an above average backup, and considering Vick always gets hurt, they are doing the right thing by paying him 2 mil.

But IMO, I think Atlanta should trade Schaub now because he is an free agent after this year. With so many teams interested in him, it would only make sense to trade him for something before he walks away scott free in the off season to a team who will pay him and give him a starting job.

Its one and done for Vick. Atlanta's head coach has already said he does not like Vick but the owners and managers of the team want to keep him around. Schaub is the future

no telling what hes worth unless he starts and plays for a long time. thats always hard because lots of backups come in and do great but when the full timer they can struggle. (look at tony romo last year) after a great start he really tailed off. falcons gotta do something , they are spinning their wheels with vick goin nowhere

i think he is the one of the best back up QB in the NFL, next to Garcia last year and Carlie Batch. Schaub is still very young and can learn alot, and can be a great QB, but he doesn't get much training since he is only the backup. but again, since he is a back up i don't think he should get 2 mil, probably less, but maybe paying him the 2 mil was for a way to keep him around so they can trade him for picks before the draft? who knows

Yes he's worth that much. More teams around the league are starting to realize the importance of a good backup quarterback. Philly's probably kicking themselves for letting Jeff Garcia go. If a starter goes down it shouldn't be the end of a season for a team.

Top Backups Last Season:

Seneca Wallace (Seattle)
Jeff Garcia (Philly)
Matt Shaub (Atlanta)
Joey Harrington (Miami) - They would have been much worse without him.

Backup Quarterback is a valuable commodity.

Not in the real world. I can't understand why people are so high on this guy who's been around a few years and hasn't shined, even when he's had the chance.
