What does it mean when a stock has returned a yield of 5% annually for the past 10 years. Is 5% a good percentage? Where do i look to find the annual yield of a company?

That can mean a couple of things. Generally yield is the cash flow derived from a position, so in the case of a stock it would be the dividend yield, which is a measure of what percentage of your invested cash you have returned to you each year. I guess it could less correctly be used as a total return number.

You are correct in that all by itself it means nothing. You need something to compare it to. How does it compare to other stocks in its industry? The dividend yield is posted pretty much anwhere you get stock data.
