I fell yesterday and my feet are pretty bruised. They were swollen yesterday, but not at all today. However, walking is kind of painful... I'd hate to go to the doctor just to have them say that there's nothing they can do for me.

Are there specific things I should watch for? Or a certain amount of time I should stop being in pain?

Thanks.

It's better for the doctor to say "it's nothing we can do for you" than waiting until it's too late and there is nothing they really can't do for you. It could be nothing at all phewww! Or it could be numerous amount of things. When in doubt always check it out!! Better safe than sorry.

There is a possibility that you may have a sprain. Sprains are frequently caused by rapid changes in direction or by a collision. Common locations for sprains are your ankles, wrists and knees. Sprains can cause rapid swelling. Generally, the greater the pain and swelling, the more severe the injury. To me, it sounds like you have a mild sprain, because you can put weight on it, even though it hurts. However, if you do go to the doctor, your doctor may just order an X-ray to rule out a fracture or other bone injury as the source of the problem.

I recommend resting, and an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). For future reference, remember the RICE Method:

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevate

After the first two days, gently begin to use the injured area. You should see a gradual, progressive improvement in the joint's ability to support your weight or your ability to move without pain.

Mild sprains usually heal in two to four weeks. If pain, swelling or instability persists, see your doctor.

If it was me I would give it a day. As long as you have capillary refill in all your toes.
That is when you push down the nail it goes white and then you let go and goes pink again. If you don't have that go to a doctor now. That being said if you have a lot of pain better to go just in case.

If they continue to hurt after a few days or if they swell up again i would go to the doctor. Alot of the times if yu call the er or your doctors office and ask to speak with the nurse. You can tell the nurse what happened and she can tell you if you need to be seen or not. hope you feel better.

If they are not swollen today, then you don't seem to need a doctor. Though, it may be necessary if there is any inflammation. Give it some time (a week or so) and it should be fine by then.

TIFF,
THE DOCTOR WILL PROBABLY TELL YOU TO TAKE SOMETHING FOR THE PAIN AT THIS POINT. YOU MAY WANT TO USE AN ELASTIC BANDAGE TO WRAP THE FOOT/FEET THAT HURT THE MOST, BUT DO WRAP TOO TIGHTLY AS YOUR CIRCULATION CAN BE CUT OFF.
ALSO TAKE SOME IBUPROFEN ( ADVIL ) TO HELP BRING DOWN THE SWELLING AND DECREASE THE PAIN.

if there is pain and swelling ,it's better tosee the doctor immediately who may advise an xray to rule out fracture. if there is fracture ,it needs immediate attention. if there's no fracture,it may be a little briuse or sprain which also needs treatment -with drugs and tight bandage etc,.
