I just watched the show "To Catch a Predator" on NBC..and what are the causes for guys to do this...im just looking for your thoughts on this for a essay. I mean the guys really think that meeting young children and chatting online is ok.

They think that because they are defective....normal, adult relationships are too difficult, unpredicatble and uncontrollable so they've subconsciously flipped the "adult relationship" switch off and flipped the "child relationship" switch back on, but replete with normal, adult, sexual feelings. They are predators because they want friendships, but they also want sex. Those are for the ones on that show. For others more deviant, like say John Wayne Gacy and such, the switch is much more drastic, and the only normalcy and control one feels is while strangling the life out of a naked boy. Its not about sex and friendship and all about control and power.

Here is your theme for the essay:
ADDICTION... just like drugs, alcohol, gambling. They are aware it is illegal but are in denial because of their burning desires. That is why most will say "I knew it was wrong and also that I would be caught but I was out of control... it took over my life". Learn about addiction and addictive behavior and you will understand where they are coming from AND you will understand there is NO WAY to rehabilitate a pedophile. A person has a sexual predilection and it will never change... no more than you will get a straight to go gay or the reverse. A pedophile will always be a pedophile
sex addiction is real. one of the many factors is most predators were molested at the same age as the victims they are now seeking out.
of course some are just sociopaths and dont care at all.

because they are sick minded individuals, and if I ever found out one talked to my children online like that, I'm afraid the law would be too late, because I would have to hurt someone...I to, watch the show, and I commend Dateline for doing this, I hope they keep up the good work for going after those sickos, and when they catch them, I hope they get to meet BIG BUBBA in jail.

They don't think it's OK. It's just more convenient since it doesn't involve a face to face encounter until they are convinced it's safe to proceed to that level. They know what they are doing is wrong, which is why you don't see them picking up random kids at a local playground.

The method isn't what makes them think it's ok. Its just that it makes it easier and anonymous, until they get there in person. The advantage for us, it that it makes it easier to lure them into law enforcement traps.
