I was able to create web pages with MS Word 2003

DON'T DO IT!
write it in proper html (better still xhtml), it aint hard.
Word will produce all sorts of junk

Just save as, or Publish as.... and that gets the html engine going

I'd recommend you to download nvu ( http://www.nvu.com/) it's freeware and is special for making web pages. Very easy to use and better than word.

if you save the page as .html it will work.

go and do a search on
web page design and building, tutorials,
there are plenty out there
